KovsieKarate was established in the early 1980s under the mentorship of sensei Ian and Piet le Roux, who continue to uphold its legacy under caretaker sensei Herman Fourie.

Since its inception, KovsieKarate has gained significant popularity across UFS campuses. Originating from Japan, karate became an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Olympics. Beyond physical prowess, martial arts such as karate instil values including discipline, respect, confidence, focus, and leadership.

Facilities
KovsieKarate is located at the Callie Human Centre, a versatile venue accommodating various activities on campus.

Excellence
Our KovsieKarate team has achieved significant success over the years, excelling as USSA karate champions and fostering the development of karate athletes who have competed internationally.
